Since 2000, Fashion East, helmed by Lulu Kennedy, has brought some of the UK’s brightest talents to the forefront of the fashion industry, pushing for young creatives to be heard. With past alumni including Nensi Dojaka, JW Anderson and Simone Rocha, among a plethora of others, Fashion East has earned a serious reputation for being the driver for some of the hottest up-and-comers around. Now, the non-profit design showcase has announced their lineup for Autumn Winter 23, made up of three womenswear design starlets. These three fashion ascendents are truly authentic to their respective creative visions, offering beautifully crafted garments aimed at all.
Estonian-born Johanna Parv will make her Fashion East debut this season, despite her signature brand of luxury performance wear only being established in 2020. In that time, the namesake label has cemented itself as a future frontrunner in luxury performance wear, with Parv’s garments beautifully demolishing the line between fashion and function to create perfectly constructed pieces which retain elegance and glamour. Parv's background is heavily supported, with time spent at Burberry, Balenciaga and Christian Dior, her positions at these respective houses giving her even more tools and knowledge to achieve her own label's intentions.
Established in 2022, the young Standing Ground, founded by Michael Stewart, has turned heads with its obsession of blurring the line between ancient landscapes and futurist ideas. The Irish designer boldly creates contemporary evening wear, custom pieces and body accessories and ornaments, his silhouettes a perfect balance of classic and modern. This will be Stewart’s second outing at Fashion East, following the showcase of his SS 23 collection during October of last year. The designer's ethos focusses on 'a new way' approach, distorting lines and pushing for innovation - while still remembering the past.
The third member of the AW season of Fashion East is Brazilian-born, London based designer Karoline Vitto, acclaimed for her celebration of the more controversial and omitted aspects of the female form. Her mantra with design is highlighting curves and folds, inclusivity standing at the forefront of her namesake label with the made-to-order approach of all pieces. Sustainability is also one of the pillars of Karoline Vitto, with 90% of materials sourced from Nona Source, a high-end showroom offering deadstock fabrics and leathers from some of the most exclusive French Maisons de Couture.
Johanna Parv, Standing Ground and Karoline Vitto will all present during London Fashion Week with live showcases, supported by Nike. Taking place at The Truman Brewery in East London, the event is scheduled to take place on February 17th.
