Fashion Britain: An Initiative by the British Fashion Council

The British Fashion Council (BFC) announced Fashion Britain in July, a nationwide initiative set to transform how fashion is celebrated and invested in across the United Kingdom.

Fashion Britain is the latest initiative to take shape under the BFC’s Strategy 2030. The pilot launch of Fashion Assembly marked the first step, bringing fashion education into schools nationwide.

As a part of BFC Strategy 2030: Access, Creativity and Growth, Fashion Britain will extend investment, opportunity and cultural participation in cities beyond London to honour British creativity in every nation and region.

Launching this September across six of the UK's leading cultural cities; London, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol and Edinburgh.

Laura Weir, Chief Executive, British Fashion Council said "British fashion is one of our greatest cultural exports, yet for too long participation has been concentrated in too few places. Fashion Britain represents a fundamental shift in how we think about our role as the British Fashion Council. If we are truly Britain's fashion council, then our responsibility is to champion creativity wherever it exists, create opportunity, inspire ambition and ensure more people can see themselves in our industry, regardless of where they live.”

Fashion Britain creates a new platform for collaboration between cities, cultural institutions, retailers, designers, businesses, educators and local communities. The initiative will bring creativity, culture and commerce together to create opportunities for designers, strengthen local creative economies and inspire the next generation of talent.

It aims to deliver a curated programme of public events, designer conversations, cultural collaborations and retail experiences that celebrate local identity while connecting communities with the wider fashion industry. Through Fashion Britain, the BFC strives to create lasting pathways for designers and creatives to build sustainable careers within their own cities.

BFC is partnering with ELLE UK to launch the National Designer Panel Series, a new programme of live conversations bringing together leading designers, industry voices and emerging talent. In participating cities, the series will create opportunities for audiences to engage directly with the people shaping British fashion.

More programme announcements, participating partners and the full public schedule will be revealed in the coming weeks.
