EA SPORTS FC 27 Takes Football 135 Metres Above London

EA SPORTS FC 27 has found a suitably unconventional way to celebrate its global launch, taking the game away from sofas, bedrooms and living rooms and onto one of London’s most recognisable landmarks. Red Bull climber and Olympic gold medallist Toby Roberts took to the London Eye, abseiling 135 metres above the Thames while continuing to play FC 27.

With the London skyline stretched out behind him, Roberts swapped the familiarity of a climbing wall for the exposed structure of one of the capital’s biggest attractions. Big Ben, the River Thames and the surrounding city formed the backdrop as he descended the London Eye, turning a routine gaming session into something considerably more extreme.

The stunt also brought together two very different sides of Roberts’ world. Known for pushing himself on rock faces and competing at the highest level of sport, the climber was challenged with keeping his focus on a football match while suspended above London. His opponents included football broadcasters Brandon Smith and Jensennotbutton, making for an unlikely FC 27 setup where concentration mattered almost as much as the game itself.

What makes the activation work is its simplicity: the location changes, but the football stays the same. Whether playing from a living room or hundreds of feet above the capital, the match remains familiar. Roberts himself described the experience as one of his more unusual challenges, admitting that the view was incredible but maintaining focus while playing was its own test.

The London Eye stunt arrives alongside the worldwide release of EA SPORTS FC 27, which introduces new gameplay innovations, features and experiences across the latest instalment. By placing the game in one of the most unexpected gaming environments imaginable, EA has turned the launch into a visual statement about how far football culture can travel.
