Debbie Shares A Piece Of Her Heartbreak Journey On New Single 'Midnight Calls'

Ever since her introduction to us with ‘Is This Real Love?’, it would be an understatement to say that we were not taken back by Debbie. Her voice is timeless and belongs to a rare selection of soulful British vocalists in recent years who are able to be felt. Her voice, passionate and arresting, her demeanour quiet and subtle, she is someone we have been waiting for.

And after taking a mini break, and various scattered hints on her Instagram about new music, Singer-songwriter Debbie returns with her heartfelt and expressive new single ‘Midnight Calls’.

Speaking on ‘Midnight Calls’, Debbie says, “I release my emotions through my music. “Midnight Calls” was just another one of those songs for me. Like most of my unreleased music, I put it in my back pocket, replaying it to myself from time to time; not expecting much from it… but one day whilst sitting on the bus this particular song touched me.

I had goosebumps and a heavy hit of emotion. I couldn’t keep it to myself so decided to share it online - only to see it was touching so many other people. I’m so glad I listened to that song on the B14 that day.”

Consisting of a simplistic guitar instrumentation that plays a looped melody, but provides moments of depth when necessary, all of our attention is on Debbie’s stunning tone of voice and the story as it unfolds.

Timeless even, Debbie is bittersweet, reflecting on a lost love and their precious time together. It’s mournful, full of regret; however, if anything, it adds to the beauty of it as she proves that joy can even be found in painful experience.

The 26-year-old sings, “I was playing the long game, damn shame, now I’m 20 something with no babies, only day dreams, slowly fading.”

The accompanying music video for the track offers gentleness and intimacy as we watch a precious moment. Debbie is in the process of getting her hair braided, but soon finds herself in solitude.

“My mission is to make people feel connected and feel seen”, she speaks further on the track.” So if you feel something, then my job is done. Midnight Calls” is a piece of my heartbreak journey, and I can’t wait to release it to the world!”

She has also announced that her long-anticipated debut EP, A Minor Tear, will be dropping at some point.
