Coco Jones’ Can’t Say Goodbye On New Single ‘here we go, (uh oh)’

Everyone has the one person who has access to them, who has effortlessly existed within their space no matter how much time has passed but shouldn’t. When they appear, you stop, stupid and dazed and fall into the rabbit hole.

On Coco Jones’ latest single ‘Here We Go (Uh Oh)’ this is exactly the experience she conveys with conflicting emotions running free on the soundscape produced by Cardia.

Sampling Lenny Williams’ 1978 soul ballad ‘Cause I Love You’ and making it her own, Coco carries the feeling of annoyance and anger at being caught in a moment by an ex-partner when she thought she had moved on but the preserving affection seeps through.

The production of the track retains the dynamism, emotion and energy of Williams’ classic but adopts the funk sensibilities of electric guitars played sporadically underneath the instrumentation wailing and expressive violin arrangement in the background which spurs on the tension.

Being pulled back in, Coco sings “How come when I see your name on my lock screen / I already know what it is / I was rolling in his bed / you were rent free in my head.”

The accompanying music video sees Coco express herself in artful choreography with a group of dancers as she fiercely prepares for a show. In other shots the camera pans out to the faces of the crowd, flickering to two suitors who have Coco torn.

The track was co-written by Coco, and released via HIGH STANDARDZ / DEF JAM RECORDINGS. Explaining the track, Coco says “It’s the impossible mission to move on from this chapter, from this person, from this cycle.”

The track marks her first new release of 2024 and follows up a year that saw her win Best R&B Performance at the GRAMMY Awards for ‘ICU’, a song off of the What I Didn’t Tell You album.

Entering new beginnings, and with the desire to build on her success there is a rumour that a new full-length album is in the works.
