Burna Boy’s No Sign Of Weakness Iss An Unfiltered Chapter With A Multiverse Of Truths

Grammy-winning Nigerian musician Burna Boy is making waves yet again with the release of his eighth studio album No Sign Of Weakness. Continuously adding to his endless list of achievements: including his groundbreaking feat as the first African artiste to sell out the London Stadium twice in both 2023 and 2024, his performance on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage a day after his 2024 London Stadium show, and his most recent appearance on F1 The Album for F1 The Movie in June 2025. Burna Boy maintains his spot as a self-proclaimed African Giant with his new album.

Released on July 11, 2025, the multifaceted project explores numerous themes: through romance, eroticism, threats to trespassers, a tribute to cannabis, human relationships, introspection, and gratitude. In particular, he addresses a recent scandal through a dedicated track.

We are led into the album with a dance tune on ‘No Panic’. The song poses as a warning to his haters, and he threatens to make a scapegoat out of one of them when he has some spare time on his hands.

Through past albums, the self-acclaimed Odogwu has always made sure to enlist first-time collaborations. This time, he takes a step further by making all four of the guest appearances, on the 16-track album, unprecedented features. Despite the album being centred on Afrobeats, no Nigerian-bred artiste or African at large is featured. This strays slightly away from the Twice As Tall album which also had no Nigerian guests, but had African talents from separate countries on three songs.

The title song comes in at second place and it follows closely on the theme of the intro song. On ‘No Sign Of Weakness’, he warns trespassers to take a backseat and threatens to sacrifice all of them as he likens himself to Kanayo O. Kanayo, a Nollywood veteran actor renowned for his sacrificial persona on-screen.

Showing his creativity alongside embracing diversity, Burna Boy makes the first song with a feature  the fifth track with rapper Travis Scott. The tune, released ahead of the album in May, spotlights an erotic concept. Iconic singer Mick Jagger, Belgian-Rwandan artiste Stromae, and country/pop star Shaboozey are the other talents, spread across the album, who also made their marks on this recent release.

Stromae gives the album its one-and-only French lyrics on ‘Pardon’. Burna Boy sings in English, being remorseful and trying to get a lady back. Stromae takes over with the pre-hook and hook in French, buttressing Burna’s desire and giving the song a bilingual balance.

Showcasing his cultural heritage as always, the African Giant sings in Pidgin English, Yoruba, and English through all 16 songs. With Stromae’s French touch, the album culminates in four languages.

In recent times, Burna Boy has trended for various reasons. The most recent one came in early March 2025 on the controversial Lambo saga that he had with a Nigerian socialite. Although he never spoke directly on the matter, he released a freestyle at the time, giving his two cents. People were intrigued by both the musician's carefree attitude and his creativity in coming up with a catchy tune amidst a scandal. On this album, he turns the freestyle into a song that he dedicates to that controversial cause. Listed as Track 7, ‘Dem Dey’ is the viral freestyle-turned-song on which he confirms that he didn’t buy the young lady a Lamborghini Urus as promised, and he sees no reason for the resulting fuss.

Two tracks away from that, ‘28 Grams’ serves as an expression of his adoration for marijuana. He highlights that cannabis brings him relief and holds the topmost position in his heart. He also condemns hard drugs, articulating that they drive people crazy. Intriguing as this song is, its moral grounds could be debatable because marijuana remains illegal in Burna Boy’s home country, and his younger audience might see the lyrics as an encouragement to indulge.

With many interludes and speeches scattered across a number of songs on the album, the final track ‘Born Winner’ puts the icing on the cake, as it commences with a motivational speech from a masculine voice. The African Giant tags himself a born winner and calls the song his testimony. Another encouraging speech from the same speaker closes the curtains on the song and, by extension, the album.

No Sign Of Weakness is a project that, following in the footsteps of his preceding albums, further cements Burna Boy’s spot as one of the best talents out of the African continent.
