Burna Boy has returned with his latest single 'Kilometre' since his Grammy win for his 2020 album, Twice as Tall. Given this and his celebratory success over the last few years, it is only right that his first solo track of 2021 reflects how far he has come. Following a series of black squares posted on his Instagram, the single was announced on socials a day before its release with a teaser of the tracks’ music video, which was released today!
So far Kilometre has been a hit amongst his listeners already racking up almost 300k views for the audio on Youtube. Bringing in producer, Chopstix, the track is a triumph for where Burna Boy is right now within his journey. Singing “When’s the last time somebody did it like this? // Too much ice on my bumbaclart wrist // That’s why everybody hating on me like Chris.”
Kilometre is a rich fusion of afrobeat’s, dancehall, and reggae, showing us once again why Burna Boy is ahead of the game. While this is his first solo track of the year, it is not his first entry into the year, featuring on Justin Bieber’s album with the single ‘Loved You’. And also teamed up with Becky G, for their collaboration “Rotate”. The video to accompany the track is everything you would expect from the global star, with extravagant visuals truly depicting his come up. There is a lot to unpack in the video in this relatively short track, but neither audio or visuals disappoint.
It is exciting to think what else Burna Boy has to come this year, as this seems to be a taster for where he is heading to. But for now, listen to Kilometre OUT NOW!
