Bricknasty Share New Single 'Is É A Locht A Laghad' And Announce New Mixtape

Dublin-based quintet Bricknasty experiment with a refreshing new sound on their latest offering single ‘is é a locht a laghad’.

Released in the lead up to their upcoming project Black’s Law, which is set to examine social issues, religion, identity, politics and nationalism, ‘is é a locht a laghad’ engages with the latter.

Its meaning translates to “it’s the least of the blame”, which makes sense as the male vocalist Fatboy’s soulful voice expresses sorrow and mourning on a stripped back instrumentation, as he croons whilst Willa Lee adds a deeper tone. The beat produced by multi-instrumentalist Cillian McCauley is composed over delicate traditional Irish folk elements and a raw acoustic guitar, is steady at first before it quickens halfway through, becoming more celebratory and joyful.

Timeless and simplistic, the song explores missed adolescence and the grief that occurs when you realise that you are no longer as free as you were as a child. Innocence has been replayed with an awareness of the way the world works, and the return to folk music, represents the better times.

“This song is to me little sister Chloe and our time we spent in the blocks messing and getting into trouble”, Fat boy said.

“Me ma warned us to enjoy it as much as we could cause life changes when you get older. She was very correct, probably more than anyone realised now with how everything's going at home and abroad.”

This summer, Bricknasty make their Glastonbury debut and will be performing their own European headline shows, as well as supporting Kneecap on tour.

Their album will be released via FAMM on the 29th October.
