Brent Faiyaz Sets ‘Icon’ Status with New Album

At the start of 2026, Brent Faiyaz took social media by storm when he uploaded a picture of himself with a new haircut on his social media pages. Little did we know that this new low-cut look merely held a light to the surprise that his then-approaching album was about to hit us with.

Following a few years of immense anticipation, Brent’s album is finally here. Unveiled on Valentine’s Eve, Icon nods to February being the month of love. Icon is an atypical work of Brent, standing on the polar end of his previous albums.

The butterflies in Brent’s tummy take the lead on Icon as the Maryland native taps into his loverboy psyche in full throttle. Although there are no features on the 10-track project, the production team is astounding.

Executive produced by legendary Raphael Saadiq, produced by four masterminds—Chad Hugo, Benny Blanco, Jonah Roy, and Berg, with mastering and engineering by talented Mike Dean; Icon earned its title.

An outstanding specific on Icon is the opening track, which is actually an instrumental track. ‘white noise.’ has no lyrics and no voice. Instead, it is a beautiful mix of musical instruments, as its name implies.

‘wrong faces.’, the second track yet first song, expresses his romantic interest in a reluctant lady who’s lost to love. Moreover, this tune is accompanied by nostalgic visuals that trail the path of the music videos from the 2000s R&B era. Directed by Cole Bennett, the music video spotlights Brent walking along a beach in the rain.

‘strangers.’, posited as the medial song, makes a shift. Unlike the preceding tracks that sang the tune of love, ‘strangers.’ strays in its direction as Brent mentions that issues were overwhelming his romantic relationship with his partner. Throughout the track, Brent ponders whether he did something wrong in the relationship. Corking ‘strangers.’ off with an outro, an AI voice recites tips on enhancing self-improvement and self-preservation.

Love fills the atmosphere again on the remaining tracks, but this time in the form of a proposal. ‘world is yours.’ comes on with the American artiste attesting to write his woman’s name on every shore because the world is hers and he would do anything for her if he’s her man.

‘four seasons.’ leans towards a rebound request as Brent tries to get her back after the failed initial relationship. He fantasises about the bliss he sees in her on ‘pure fantasy.’. The concluding track takes an inquisitive course. Questioning individual definitions/variations of happiness, Brent introspects on ‘vanilla sky.’.

Despite being much anticipated, Icon still arrived as a pleasant surprise. This time, it’s neither drama, nor toxic. It’s only one thing—Brent Faiyaz in his feelings, which doubles as a breath of fresh air. It would seem Brent took his time with this new project because he wanted it to be personal, introspective, and plausibly reflective of his current reality.
