BET UK Announces New Documentary Series "Living Lyrics"

BET UK, a subsidiary of Paramount Global, has announced the launch of "Living Lyrics," a brand-new four-part documentary series that offers an exclusive look into the minds of some of the UK music scene's most masterful storytellers. The series will stream exclusively on My5 now. "Living Lyrics" was commissioned by BET UK and produced by BBC Studios Digital Originals.

Hosted by BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Kenny Allstar, this innovative performance and documentary hybrid series will spotlight one British talent per episode. Featured artists include the award-winning, North London-born rapper and songwriter Headie One; grime legend and rap royalty Ghetts; South London rapper and singer-songwriter Enny; and chart-topping Birmingham-based rapper Mist. Each episode promises a captivating glimpse into the lives and creative processes of these top-tier artists.

Viewers will accompany Kenny Allstar as he delves deep into the environments, relationships, and cultural elements that have shaped these artists' most iconic lyrics. Through a blend of on-the-ground exploration and exclusive archive footage, the series paints a vivid picture of the inspirations behind their music. Each episode also includes two exclusive performances: one in-studio and one acoustic set in a location significant to the artist.

"Living Lyrics" aims to go beyond the surface of the artists' most renowned tracks, offering viewers a deeper understanding of their music and personalities. For instance, Ghetts will dissect his track "Double Standards," featuring Sampha, which addresses a variety of political, personal, and global issues. Meanwhile, Enny will share the personal experiences that informed her self-empowerment anthem, "Peng Black Girls." This series will peel back the layers, revealing the profound truths behind the lyrics.
