ALEKSANDRA VIKTOR: The IKAT Coat

ALEKSANDRA VIKTOR has continued to bless us with eclectic pieces. They have stayed true to their sustainable roots and redefined slow fashion. This time, sophisticated, Ikat Coats take the reins. Woven with tradition and craftsmanship, ALEKSANDRA VIKTOR celebrates Uzbekistan’s traditional ikat weaving industry. Thus they carry on their heritage production methods by supporting local manufacturing industries worldwide. They disregard fast fashion, continuing to make pieces full of love, integrity and longevity.

Whether you choose to dress the pieces up or down, they are sure to make a statement. My favourite piece has been the Golda chaphan. Coated in red, light blue and black outlined swirls. Like the other Chaphans in the collection, the GOLDA handwoven piece is the perfect blend of materials from velvet, silk and cotton. This perfect combination provides a structure with boldness, excitement and security. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that this Golda pattern is a traditional Uzbek pattern and part of the hundreds of old patterns Aleksandra studied. Also translated in the Juliet purple Chapan, Aleksandra continues to choose exciting elements from antique patterns and materials, reworking and reinterpreting them.

Through the dynamic coats, we see remnants of worldwide heritage. We trace the dyed yarn and its geometric patterns to its origin and the cultures

it’s interweaved in, such as India, Japan and most notably Uzbekistan. In this day and age, it is exciting that brands like ALEKSANDRA VIKTOR are continuing the uphill battle for sustainability and the protection of the world we will leave behind.
