Soul singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer, Akin Soul releases an enchanting video to his newest single ‘Burning Fire’.
Directed by Tane Steppard and Theo Geraghty, Akin Soul plays the role of the storyteller who narrates the story of heartbreak between two lovers. The hazy visuals exudes the feeling of nostalgia, almost like this is a distant memory. As soon as the track begins you are made aware of Akin Soul’s skill for creating varied textures in his music. From his intimate layered backing vocals, the repetitive guitar motifs or the layering of the live horn section, this is all used to create an immersive listening experience. Heavily inspired by his hometown, Nigeria and the Yoruba tribe, the video closes with scenes of the cast dressed in royal ankara clothing which weaves in the celebration of black culture.
The song features a live horn section that was recorded by The Soul Tribe, which is a 12 piece band formed by Akin himself. Collectively, they have graced stages and venues like Off The Cuff, All Points East, Boxpark Croydon and so much more. Speaking on the making of the track, Akin Soul shares: “Heartbreak drove me crazy but it inspired a melody which brought me to compose a song on piano. A year later I took it to my producer friend and by this point I had grown a lot and the song grew to take various meanings as I connected with it from newer experiences… I want to make people dance, smile and groove but most of all feel something!”
‘Burning Fire’ is Akin’s second offering following from his debut groovy jazz single ‘I Want You’. At just 19, Akin has developed a mature perspective on life that trickles down into his music and clearly articulated in his songwriting. His vocal ability is echoic of the great soul singers that have come before him but includes a unique blend of modern day jazz.
