AI Makes Its Runway Debut at TULASI’s ‘Omnia Vanitas’: London Fashion Week

TULASI presents its SS/AW27 runway collection, Omnia Vanitas, at London Fashion Week on 20 September at The Royal Horseguards Hotel.

British fashion designer and creative director Tulasi Parmar showcases a striking collection exploring timeless themes of beauty, power and wealth through regal colours and grand silhouettes.

The range embraces the tension between physical identity and digital sensibility, while also challenging preconceptions of runway shows and limitations in fashion.

Among the collection’s standout looks was a riveting metallic-gold piece, dramatically ruffled at the front, featured alongside an ensemble enveloped in voluminous fur. The designs were followed by a digital finish with an AI robot closing the show in a TULASI design.

With an AI robot walking down the runway, TULASI challenged the audience’s expectations. AI and digital fashion took centre stage, blurring the boundaries between the physical and virtual worlds.

TULASI’s approach balances both sustainability and innovation with AI and 3D digital software prototyping garments before physical production. Virtual refinements are used for patterns, fit, drape and movement to help reduce excessive fabric sampling.

The designs combine traditional craftsmanship with emerging technologies including CLO 3D, Cinema 4D and Unreal Engine with physical pieces manufactured on demand through in-house UK production.

Technology goes hand in hand with the physical garment at TULASI, using digital tools to create a smoother production, while reimagining the art of designing and creating forward-thinking, innovative fashion by partnering physical materials with digital capabilities.

The collection’s balance of technological innovation and the human touch propels the fashion world forward, with Tulasi adamant that AI bots will not replace models, and that in her shows, human models will always outnumber their digital counterparts.

TULASI questions the future of fashion with Omnia Vanitas, as the human experience travels further in the digital world and advancements in artificial intelligence continue.
