SXSW To Turn East London Into Global Music Village For It's Second Year

Returning from 1–6 June 2026, South by Southwest® (SXSW®) will once again transform East London into a citywide hub for music discovery, bringing together emerging talent, underground scenes, and globally recognised artists across venues, clubs, and cultural spaces throughout Shoreditch.

The newly announced line-up already signals the scale and diversity of this year’s edition. Among the first confirmed acts are Afrobeats icon Tiwa Savage, American rapper Earl Sweatshirt, Nigerian rapper and songwriter ODUMODUBLVCK, Zimbabwean-British alt-pop artist Rachel Chinouriri, post-punk band Shame, indie rock outfit Circa Waves, and experimental producer Sega Bodega. Also joining the programme are Infinity Song, Amaria BB, Grammy-winning producer Fraser T Smith, and legendary DJ Pete Tong, who will appear exclusively for Industry Pass holders.

While many global festivals continue to prioritise headline-driven programming, SXSW London is leaning into something more community-focused: creating space for emerging movements, regional sounds, and artist-led scenes to exist alongside internationally established names.

The festival has confirmed 37 co-curators who will help shape this year’s programme, including BBC Introducing, Crack Magazine, Clash Magazine, Reprezent Radio, Hospital Records, Mahogany, Pitch Scotland, and FOCUS Wales, among others.

This curator-led approach has become central to SXSW London’s identity. Rather than programming through a single editorial lens, the festival draws on collectives, media platforms, tastemakers, and community organisers who are deeply connected to emerging scenes.

The festival is also working alongside nearly 100 music jurors and industry professionals involved in selecting breakthrough talent for the 2026 edition. Representatives from organisations including Universal Music, KOKO, Village Underground, Tileyard, and Dreamland are contributing to the selection process, helping ensure the line-up reflects both grassroots credibility and global industry relevance.

Following a successful inaugural edition, SXSW London appears intent on expanding both its scale and cultural impact in 2026. Organisers are positioning the event not simply as an extension of the original Austin festival, but as a distinctly London-centric platform that reflects the city’s diversity, underground creativity, and role as a crossroads for international music culture.

That ambition is perhaps best captured by the idea of East London becoming a “global music village” for one week each summer — a place where scenes from Lagos, London, New York, Kingston, and beyond intersect through live performance, collaboration, and shared audiences.
