Ruby Francis Collabs With Blue Lab Beats for Eclectic New Single "Let Me In"

North London native Ruby Francis and jazztronica magicians Blue Lab Beats have collaborated on genre-traversing new single “Let Me In,” a preview from Ruby’s upcoming debut album. A sweet neo-soul, nu-jazz and alternative R&B vibe, Ruby’s soothing vocals and relatable lyrics work in perfect synergy with the groove of Blue Lab Beats’ production.

NK-OK and Mr. DM, the enigmatic creatives who make up the duo we know as Blue Lab Beats, are no strangers to the game. Their beats, tinted with that unique London flavour, has got them the attention and widespread acclaim of jazztronica connoisseurs worldwide, and they have supported the likes of Thundercat and Roy Ayers.

Coupled with fellow North Londoner and uber-talented canary Ruby Francis, whose previous releases have seen praise of the likes of Jamz Supernova and Tom Robinson, the track was assured to be smooth-sailing, funky and chill.

“Let Me In” is a melting pot of Ruby’s musical and cultural influences; her Jamaican, British and Italian heritage and her upbringing on Chaka Khan and Stevie Wonder are echoed in the track, which is in fact the fruit of a car ride journeying to The Great Escape festival in Brighton. With her sweet symphonies layered on top of Blue Lab Beats’ masterful manipulation of rich and nifty percussion, synths and subtle hi-hats, the song does a great job at showcasing the UK’s swing on alternative music.

On the new single, Ruby said: “It’s a personal experience about exploring vulnerability within a relationship, but it’s something that can be interpreted by everyone in some way. We all need to practice vulnerability to set ourselves free”.
