Return To Button House In The Newest Hauntingly Good Time From The Six Idiots

Ghosts is a story about an unlikely group of friends, or .. ghosts, as they are bought together by the one thing they all seem to have in common: death. Though, their undead lives seem to change when Allison is added to the mix when she discovers she has the ability to see them, and many others, when she falls from a second story window.

The Possession Of Button House, set a few months after Allison and Mike decide to move out of Button House and sell it to be turned into a hotel and golf resort, stalled construction brings in eco-protestors and leaves the resident ghosts terribly bored. But, when a group of teenage ghosts hunters break into Button House and hold an amateur seance, disgraced Tory MP Julian possesses a teenager named Jack, allowing him to leave Button House for the first time in an attempt to bring back Allison to put a stop to the protest and the subsequent fire plot hatched by current MP Richard Move.

After the show concluded back in 2023, there were a lot of questions pertaining to the future of Ghosts and whether or not we would ever see them make a return. Season five concluded on a bittersweet note, with Mike and Allison bidding farewell to the ghosts and boarding up Button House for the foreseeable, with a lot of Button House's future hanging in the balance. So, when the film was announced it felt like a warm embrace from old friends that we hadn’t seen in a while.

From the offset, the film is filled with non-stop laughter and joy, you cannot help but feel some sense of happiness when watching this film. And this comes as no surprise when it is written by the six idiots, more professionally known as them there, the comedy troupe responsible for series such as horrible histories and yonderland. Not only was there plenty of humour for the audience to sink their teeth into, there was also a careful balance between the humorous and the more emotional side of things, which is seen most in Jack's storyline with his parents.

Though there may be some doubting that there was ever any need for a feature film and adamant that perhaps the series should have remained such, there are devoted fans who will be more than pleased with this film. Despite the change in cinematography and script, the overall tone feels the same as the show. It keeps the same themes we have all come to know and love. The ghosts still bicker as they always have and they remain their loveable selves. Thomas is still as obsessed with Allison, Kitty remains her bubbly self, Fanny keeps her cynical composure, Pat keeps up morale, Robin is as charming as he ever was, Captain is as stoic and remains a strong leader and Julian remains as sleazy as he always has been. It’s these characteristics that make the audience fall in love with these characters, each ghost relating to someone different in more ways than one. Which is one of the joys of Ghosts.

Above all else, it was nostalgic to have them all together again and on a bigger screen, this time. It worked incredibly well and it truly felt like they deserved to have their story told in a feature length film. Ghosts will always be such a big part of people’s lives, and now they have an entirely new story to enjoy as many times as they’d like.
