Reimagining Post-Consumer Denim With Levi’s And British Council

In collaboration with the British Council’s Architecture Design and Fashion (ADF) programme, Levi’s launched a digital residency exploring the use of post-consumer materials and the numerous ways sustainability and innovation can be combined. With numerous European designers sending in their innovative ideas, Levi’s and ADF chose to collaborate with Netherlands-based design lab Envisions and British educational association STORE.

Based in Levi’s Haus, London (the brand’s one-of-a-kind concept store), Envisions and STORE worked together to research three categories: Mixing Fibres, Connecting Fabrics, and Exploring Yarns. This research led to the creation of 75 individual experiments, formed using a multitude of techniques such as 3D printing, weaving, and braiding. In addition, these experimental projects used new materials such as denim composites, denim fur, and denim paint using indigo dye extracted from a pair of jeans.

These cutting-edge designs are available for the public to view in an exhibition at Levi’s Haus, London.

In addition to the exhibition, there were a series of organised workshops dedicated to encouraging up-cycling and conversations on caring for the planet. The workshops include Indigo Wax Crayon Making, a denim fibre pulp after-school club, and Basket Making.

There is also a Maker's Manual available with How-To videos for audiences at home.

The exhibition is open to the public from 20th April to 5th May.
