PrettyBoy D-O Fuses Western and African Influences in New Album "Love is War"

The followup to his critically acclaimed 8-track project Wildfire from last year, Nigerian hitmaker Prettyboy D-O has returned with the new album Love is War. Highlighting his distinctive artistry and flamboyant persona, the album is tattooed with the titular mantra that Love is War, with each of the 16 tracks being one stop on the sonic journey between alté, rap and hip-hop.

Love is War showcases Prettyboy D-O’s musical versatility and style while keeping his Nigerian vim and pride on display. The track Lord Protect My Steppings, accompanied by a feature from Gambian-British talk of the town Pa Salieu, has clear-cut uk drill influences laced throughout, while Falling, featuring IAMDDB is more akin to an afro-swing vibe. DO’s affiliation with the rising alte music scene of Nigeria isn’t hidden either, the entire project is underpinned with modern afrobeat productions from the likes of Higo and KILLERTUNES among many others, an honor to his African heritage.

A Nigerian native from Port Harcourt and a dual US/Nigerian citizen, Prettyboy D-O grew up surrounded with the art of tastemakers. Citing Craig David, Fela Kuti and Travis Scott as influences, his music solders several western genres together and flavours them with Nigerian afrobeats, reflective of his fight to encourage the current African youth to explore and hone their creativity.

Armed with support from the likes of Dazed and Complex and even getting the praise of fellow Port Harcourt native Burna Boy, Prettyboy DO’s flamboyant eccentricity, versatile music and one-of-a-kind talent is making its way into the global stage, with this third project firmly establishing him as one to watch.
