Odeal’s “OVMBR: Hits No Mrs” Is Sure To Keep You Warm During the Winter

With November, comes OVMBR. South London’s resident Alté connoisseur Odeal has kept his promise and gifted us with his newest EP, OVMBR: Hits No Mrs. Supplying us with heat to keep us warm during the approaching frosty season, the tape is signed, sealed and delivered with 5 meticulously crafted tracks inside, all of which harbour Odeal’s signature sonic style while introducing us to a new era of the artist.

The followup to his appetizer single Mr Workerman and 2020’s edition OVMBR: Roses, Odeal effortlessly goes from strength to strength, with OVMBR: Hits No Mrs showcasing his ever-growing musical evolution and sophisticated artistry. Being one of the most notable names pushing the UK’s Alté wave, each track is flavoured with afro-swing and R&B to get you jiving, in your feels, or a mix of both.

Supported by the heartfelt lead single 1942, which features a simple guitar melody to accentuate Odeal’s stellar pen game and velvety vocals, the tape continues the renaissance man’s leading themes of romance and youth.

Speaking on the cultivation of 1942, Odeal says “1942 is a story about two people whose turbulent relationship is fueled by excessive drinking. Both lovers are having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that they’re inseparable."

Working collaboratively with fellow Southside musician and songwriter Eight9Fly throughout the project, OVMBR: Hits No Mrs begins with the rhythmic ditty Soul Searching, with the clear Nigerian afrobeat influences continuing into the second track, Dango. After the emotional break that is 1942, the tape takes a more introspective turn, with penultimate song Picture being infused with a soulful sax, and last track Afraid of the Dark being the perfect binding of Alté, R&B and mellow rap.

Having previously seen success with huge hit 24/48 and receiving praise and support from the likes of Capital Xtra, NME, Complex and Apple Music 1 to name a few, Odeal’s consistency in both releases and quality has garnered him an impressive fanbase and reputation among UK tastemakers.

With no intention of boxing himself into one sound, OVMBR: Hits No Mrs surely lives up to its witty name.
