Octavian, Santi & Obongjayar Overdose On 'Poison' (Music Video)

After the success of his single 'Papi Chulo' featuring UK rap icon Skepta, Octavian is back with a collaborative song and visual that seems to come from left field, featuring two of the leading Afro-Fusion artists out right now, Santi and Obongjayar. Sonically poison is a tale of their infatuation with a woman and their lack of control and need for love. The instruments used in this record, produced by world-renowned producer Take A Daytrip, is afrobeat inspired in the xylophone sounds that Obongjayar sings the hook over in an almost distorted tone. Obongjayar croons about the woman they speak of being his poison but still wanting her love till he overdoses.

The record then maintains a colourful bounce as Octavian raspily raps and harmonises about how ruthless this poisonous woman is and the people she has left behind in her quest for more. Octavian sings "She want them pounds, them dollars / she take it all with no loving", speaking to the fact that he and the lady he speaks of have completely different objectives, however later in his verse Octavian lets her know that she's moving 'too extra' and snaps out of her trance. Afro-Fusion star Santi arrives on the record with a rapid fine verse while sustaining his smooth tone over the tropical yet dark instrumental. He raps about the wild times that he and this poisonous woman have, wanting to stay in the dark and not wanting the morning. The visual, Directed by Crowns&Owls, is an amazing piece of work that brings the record to live in multiple ways. It begins with all 3 acts on their way to a night club full of beautiful women, who personify the concepts that reside in the lyrics. To mark the start of the record, at the entrance of the club Octavian is marked on his wrist and they, therefore, enter a mysteriously vailed space. As they walk further they are met with silhouettes of women seductively dancing as they walk down the aisle. The immersive special effects and Fish Eye lenses used to draw the audience into the scenes impressively. Another key element of this visual is the use of light, especially what seems to be a night vision effect. The visual ends in a beautiful scene, reminiscent of a renaissance painting with a dark sky.
