Nigerian-American Artist Khalei Comes Back With Vibrant New Single “Twin”

Nigerian-American singer-songwriter Khalei has given us a tease of his forthcoming EP Lagos Nights with brand new single Twin. The perfect track to listen to on summer nights, the mid-tempo beat (produced by Roman AKV, who’s worked with the likes of Abra Cadabra and Kojo Funds), catchy hook, Khalei’s husky tone and well-balanced autotune makes Twin an R&B-trap fusion song that’s easy on the ears.

The song’s lyrics are subjected on heartbreak after finding the seemingly perfect woman; instead of her being the one however, she turns out to be there for the money.

“The reason I wrote this song is that I genuinely believed she was my soulmate, turns out she was a gold digger or just interested in material things - hence why I started the song by singing ‘She said she wants the Jordan's and the Prada's, dancing in the rain, Mike Amiri trainers, show me what she says’" Khalei explains.

Having had his foot in the lifestyles of Nigeria, the US and the UK, Khalei is well-versed on the different lanes of black music, often using downtempo trap beats sprinkled with some drill hi-hats, while still letting his light Nigerian accent and slang shine through. Twin is exemplary of Khalei's signature musical style, and is an exciting glimpse into the bright future of his career.

Khalei is widening the reach of alternative/new-wave R&B music to Nigeria, and it doesn’t seem like he’s stopping anytime soon.
