Nia Smith Samples James Blake On New Single 'Limit'

From the outset, it is clear that love is not boundless in this scenario. It has rules, conditions, and that is conveyed via an easily sung melodic number that doesn't betray the singer's cool, relaxed nature in the form of Nia Smith.

For the British Musician, vulnerability is absent, and conviction has taken its place as she explores the depth of her feelings regarding a romantic relationship on her new single ‘Limit’. She warns her partner about the expiry date of her love.

A James Blake sample of ‘Limit To Your Love’ is central to the heartbeat of the song, as blues-esque piano chords and skipping percussion provide a slow and measured metronomic pace for Nia, whose soulful delivery is clear and controlled as she comments on what’s lacking in the relationship, finding reasons to make sense of her partner’s irrational behaviour going off a hunch but not acceptance.

There’s no forgiveness or forgetting, here. Rather, it’s the south Londoner, directly asks, “Why are you treating me like business?”,  getting ready to pass judgment and sentencing.

Limit was definitely the hardest to get over the line, it’s been in the making for over a year.”, Nia said, sharing her thoughts on her latest offering.

“We went through about 4 different choruses and countless versions of the song lol. But I think that makes it even more rewarding now it’s out. I tried sampling for the first time which was fun and challenging. Limit is a song for the people who’ve had enough and have come to terms with letting go.”

This year the Novello-nominated artist has released her debut EP, Give Up The Fear, and has performed at Mahalia Presents at the Jazz Cafe, supported Pip Millett at Somerset House, supported Sasha Keable at Lafayette, played before SZA at BST, Hyde Park and supported both Jordan Rakei & Elmiene on his US, UK & EU tour.
