Leeds-based duo The Northhaze define the art of eclectic rap with their new album 'Hi-Def'

The UK rap scene creates niche audiences, each with their interpretation of the sound and array of musical talent within the sub-genre, and depicts the diverse exploration of the music here in the UK.

In the past few years, alternative rap has created its music revolution with more independent artists crafting their unique sounds and deconstructing the nature of the music industry. With many musical outsiders solely exploring London-based artists, musicians from the North of England are establishing their sound in the scene.

From the ever-growing city of Leeds hails musical duo The Northhaze, consisting of artists Kosi and Swish, the pair have made an array of songs and have since developed a vast amount of both northern and online followers. As the duo takes on new chapters their aim to showcase their music beyond the north has been a smooth sailing success so far whether it's guest appearing on NTS or performing locally, the pair’s most recent musical launch might be the start of something.

Released last month, ‘Hi-Def’ is a 5 track album and the duo’s 7th project since their formation in 2014. The album plays on an experimental sound throughout alongside creatively metaphoric lyrics, whether you find yourself spiralised into the infectious siren call at the start of Bandwidth Babies or the meditative soundscape of El Tremellow, The Northaze have effortlessly approached their new beginnings straight into full speed.
