Kehlani Pays Homage To 2000s R&B With 'Out The Window' Music Video

Crafted exactly for one of those R&B slow jam nights that have steadily grown in popularity over these last few years, ventures with your close friends or sung drunkly to the love of your life, earnestly, passionately conveying pure emotion to say that, yes, I love you with everything.

This is what Kehlani, one of the most compelling voices in the contemporary scene, has bottled in her latest single, ‘Out The Window’, released via Atlantic Records.

On ‘Out The Window’ you cannot help but hear that there is a nostalgic tone to it. Inspired by the early 2000s, it is the chorus, heartfelt, simple and catchy that makes this such an infectious song.

This is also supported by the artwork of the single, which was shot by photographer Markus Klinko, who has done work for Beyonce, Mariah Carey and Mary J Blige in that era.

A soft percussion beat keeps you in time, a string arrangement adds to the emotional depth of it, but doesn’t take anything from the soulfully rich voice of Kehlani.

The storytelling around it depicts The Seven-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated and multiplatinum artist yearning and longing for a past flame so much so that she cannot sleep; regret is central, as she pleads for another chance to make things right.

The accompanying video reflects the intimacy, love and yearning of the track, and also the cornerstones of traditional R&B.

This track also follows Kehlani’s beloved single ‘Folded’, a tender and wholesome declaration to her love interest which announced the season of yearning.
