Grammy-Winning DJ Drama Drops ‘Ain’t A Lover’ Featuring Jaz Karis, Nippa, and 310 Babii"

DJ Drama, a Grammy Award-winning producer and music choreographer, dropped Ain’t A Lover, a powerful 3 minutes 35 seconds that takes us from the past to the future of Hip Hop. The track features two artists that have been setting pace recently in the UK, Jaz Karis and Nippa, alongside West Coast rapper 310 Babii. 

DJ Drama has played a steady role in defining the hip-hop genre, becoming known for his natural ability to predict and spot emerging talent. 

“There’s a lot of incredible talent coming out of the UK, and I wanted to team up with Nippa and Jaz on this track, along with Cali’s 310 Babii. Get your passport ready!” This comment from DJ DRAMA demonstrates the kind of person he is - bringing artists together emphasises his position towards the importance of global partnerships. 

Now, let’s take a little look at these talents individually; 

Jaz Karis, you’ll either find her in South London or LA searching for british staples like ‘baked beans! Her critically acclaimed debut album Safe Flight dropped the other month where she was named BBC Radio 1’s Future Artist of September and recognised as one of Hypebeast’s Female UK R&B Singers. Her smooth, nostalgic vocals work beautifully with ‘Ain’t A Lover’.

Next we have Nippa, mobo-nominated Nippa, described as ‘an exciting prospect for R&B’ recently named as VEVO DSCVR Artist for November, with Billboard recognising his single Pride, calling it “deserving of his biggest hit yet.”

He gives the track additional layers, layers dressed in personality and energy. 

Nippa notes; “It’s a full circle moment for me to work with Drama. I grew up listening to him, with tracks like ‘Waiting On My Moment’ and ‘Oh My’ on repeat. Knowing that a legend in hip hop has asked me to collaborate on his project shows that anything is possible!”.

And then we have 310 Babii, inks the track with his recognisable catchy flow. Born in Inglewood California, invited to perform Soak City (Do It) at the red carpet BET Awards earlier this year. Fun fact: Soak City was “recorded on his phone, all he used was BandLab, a straightforward recording program”. Little did he know it was about to blow! 310 has also been featured on JayDon’s single ‘Ah! Ah!'.

The visualiser for the track reflects a recent conversation I had about the relevance of music videos in today's music space, maybe I'll talk about this at some point. This track didn’t need a full music video; the visualiser handled it.

A few behind-the-scenes shots and moving fonts matching the beat were enough to catch our attention. 

The track in all its entirety reminds us why DJ Drama has been named “a tastemaker, a kingmaker, and a cornerstone of hip hop’s ongoing evolution.” He unites artists and he did just that on Ain’t A Lover.
