Fii3rd Delivers Magnetic Debut Album “Son of Imo”

Making his debut in 2017 with standout tracks like Iheoma and Gbam Gbam, California-based Nigerian virtuoso Fii3rd has etched a name for himself within the new-gen lineup of Afrobeats tastemakers, releasing his debut project Son of Imo in January. Having signed a thrilling deal with UK-based music consultancy agency Afrisounds, who have the likes of J Hus and Afro B as clientele, the album skates off the back of lead singles Amina and For The Money, each of which received Tiktok’s golden stamp of approval in the form of viral status.

Son of Imo sees Fii3rd opening up about ambition, family, celebrity life and romance, while simultaneously journeying through 18 tracks of poolside Afrobeats and blue-light R&B ambiance underlayed with smooth percussion beds and mellow, muted synths.

Pronounced “fee-third”, Fii3rd’s ability to seamlessly fuse musical genres together comes naturally. His Imo State birthplace and Californian residency has translated into a distinct and multidimensional musical identity; primarily aligned with Afrobeats, his niche's radius also engulfs R&B, alté, traditional highlife and afro-pop. Not bracketing himself into a singular style, every track of Son of Imo has varied influences, allowing for a compelling project that stays engaging and replayable.

Boasting guest appearances from Yung6ix (Davido, Wizkid), and DwillsHarmony (Tiwa Savage, Ycee) among many others, the features further contribute to the album's auditory allure, which is spearheaded by Fii3rd’s candy-coated, gentle voice, speckled tastefully within every song.

Speaking on the creation of Son of Imo, Fii3rd says: “I’ve been working on ‘Son Of Imo’ for three years now. I wanted to make an album that served as a love letter to my hometown, family, friends and of course my listeners. The album is a culmination of all that I love in music and my own personal slant on afrobeats music. Each song on the album is a piece of my mind evolved into melodies, and my only hope is that it finds a new home in the hearts of fans and critics alike. I put my all into this project, I can’t wait to have people listen to these words of a ‘Son of Imo’”.

Having his music endorsed across the African continent by MTV Base Africa, Cool FM, Soundcity TV among many others, Son of Imo’s three-year molding and mastering has been worth the wait, with Fii3rd releasing a dulcet 18-track mood playlist to go along with the rest of 2022.
