Exploring External Appearances and Internal Realities, UMI Releases New Neo-Soul Single ‘HARD TRUTHS’ Featuring 6LACK

R&B singer-songwriter UMI unveils a silver of vulnerability and introspection as she expresses the true meaning of life on her new neo-soul single ‘HARD TRUTHS’.

The theme of growth is central to track, as UMI realises that society places too much value on the surface level and artificial rather than the internal. Confronting ‘Hard Truths’ UMI’s vocals are light-weighted and serene as her voice skates over the soundscape, consisting of hip-hop influenced elements, minimalistic 808 drum percussion and a deep grounding bassline.

Rather than look outside for validation and materialistic things, she comes to the conclusion that people are at the root of happiness and how they make you feel, and the key relationships in your life are the thing that we must treasure.

“You could have a nice house, but going home lonely/ closet full of nice clothes, who’s holding you closely? You could cash out, that’s nice, partying all night/ But you’re empty inside, are you even alive?”, Umi sings.

6LACK adds his own soft melodic verse to the track, reinforcing the message that it’s inside, rather than what the outside matters the most.

“‘HARD TRUTHS’ delves into the complexities of self-awareness, the emptiness of materialism, and the importance of genuine connection,” UMI reflects. “Alongside 6LACK, who is featured on the record - the lyrics explore the contrast between external appearances and internal realities. Emphasising  the need to confront uncomfortable truths about oneself and relationships.”
