London-based fashion designer, Erdem Moralioglu, has teamed up with luxury interiors brand de Gournay to create an eleven-piece ready-to-wear range for this SS20.
Just in time for spring, the collection perfectly embodies the essence of both brands and can only be described as a delicate, yet elegant tribute to botanic beauty. While florals for spring are often considered unimaginative and overdone, ERDEM and de Gournay have come together to construct a collection that reinvents the faux pas of seasonal florals altogether – proving that florals for spring can be ground-breaking after all.
Both brands share a love for pattern, colour and craftsmanship. De Gournay is known for creating bespoke, hand-painted Chinoiserie wallpapers; each wallpaper is individually designed and printed on either silk or xuan paper. These designs are showcased on ERDEM’s signature floaty silhouettes, utilising a canvas of white, navy and black material – we get the full floral effect.
Throughout all of his collections, Erdem has never strayed from his signature aesthetic of romance and whimsy. He has long drawn on inspiration from flora and fauna, which makes this collection all the more meaningful. ERDEM and de Gournay have exquisitely united the realms of fashion and interiors through these designs, and they overtly express their mutual dedication to the motif of halcyon romance.
The result of the collaboration is a selection of wallpaper presenting an array of bucolic scenes, featuring blooming plants, flowers and sprightly birds perched on branches, against a backdrop of radiantly coloured and sub-hued tones. The garments within the collection, include an assemblage of ethereal tiered gowns, poplin summer dresses, fluted skirts and frilled tops, which aptly accompanies de Gournay’s earthly depiction.
With so many of us at home due to the current circumstances, ERDEM X de Gournay offer a way to make our homes resemble the natural world we all miss and love so much.
The collection is available to shop through the exclusive retail partners: Bergdorf Goodman, Net-A-Porter and Erdem.com.
