Emilio Pucci And The Importance Of Legacy

Emilio Pucci, the Marquis of Barsento, was born in 1914 to one of Florence's oldest families and became a fashion phenomenon in the 1950s with a groundbreaking vision that still resonates today.

Despite giving up his aristocratic lifestyle, the Marquis was dubbed "The Prince of Prints" by the worldwide fashion press, who were enamored with his bold, fresh designs and revolutionary approach to fashion at the time. Pucci's legacy continues to be a significant force behind the birth of the "Made in Italy" style. Pucci, unlike his design contemporaries, was motivated by a desire to liberate women, allowing them unprecedented freedom and mobility. Women were restricted by rigid, structured clothing that used heavy padding, corsets, and petticoats to unnaturally limit the body prior to Pucci's entrance on the fashion scene.

His free-flowing lines followed the body's natural curves in his simple designed skirts, slacks, and shirts. Pucci's designs had the attraction of haute couture, but without all of the unrealistic weight, volume, layering, and, most significantly, cost. Pucci also gave a comprehensive vision that included everything from clothes and underwear to linens, handbags, fragrances, and rugs.

Pucci prints enjoyed a resurgence in prominence in the 1990s, and Emilio's daughter, Laudomia Pucci, began to take over her father's business as the world's infatuation with the brand revived. The Pucci family and LVMH forged a partnership in April 2000, with the French luxury business acquiring 67 percent of the company. The company has created a global shop network in a short period of time, and its stock has surged.
