Before its official release, R&B singer Elmiene treated his lucky fans to a world exclusive listening of his new single ‘Cry Against the Wind’ at a sold-out show of Brixton Academy recently. However, now we can all bask in the powerful new era he is stepping into as it's now out into the world.

‘Cry Against The Wind’ is a gut-wrenching and heartfelt song that brings out a raw vulnerability in Elmiene, as he grapples with the complexities in his journey of the relationship with his father.

The song begins with a minimal backdrop of Neo-soul production that allows Elmienes’ voice and lyrics to take centre stage, as he confronts his audience with an aching confession of guilt, resentment and love.

The sudden beat change midway in the song begins with a single kick drum that explodes into an array of different sonics, signifying his conflicting emotions clambering to take over one another. Elmiene guides the listener through his feelings by his slight changes in tone throughout, mixed with his vocals becoming more powerful, highlighting the strain the relationship has on him.

One might think the song would slowly start to fade out, but instead, the production carries on in a tumultuous manner, with Elmiene signalling the end of the track with a passionate roar wrapped in emotion.

The single is coupled with simple yet strong visuals to capture the story, which alternates between Elmiene resembling his father, and then going back to himself. Throughout the video, a windstorm starts brewing and gets progressively stronger, resembling the power behind his lyrics and emotions.

Elmiene has been lauded as a one-of-a-kind talent that has been praised by some of the most influential voices within UK music. This includes placing fifth in the BBC Sound of 2024 poll, as well as being nominated for the prestigious BRIT Awards Rising Star at the beginning of the year.
