Destin Conrad leans into his Jamaican roots on new single 'NERVOUS'

After exploring the world of alternative jazz on wHIMSY!, Destin Conrad is heading somewhere new. His latest single, NERVOUS, sees the Grammy-nominated artist embrace reggae and dancehall influences while still holding onto the R&B style that's made him one of the genre's most exciting voices.

Rather than feeling like a complete change in direction, NERVOUS comes across as another side of Destin's artistry. He's never been afraid to experiment with his sound and this time he turns to his Jamaican heritage.

The accompanying visual is what really brings everything together. The video celebrates Jamaican culture in a way that feels lived in and authentic. Styled with a clear nod to Caribbean fashion, Destin is surrounded by dancers and vibrant moments that make it feel less like a performance and more like you've been invited into a celebration yourself.

Musically, NERVOUS finds a comfortable balance between R&B and reggae without losing what makes Destin's music so distinctive. Speaking about the release, Destin explained that his recent exploration of jazz encouraged him to keep pushing his creativity and see how far he could take his sound. NERVOUS, was an opportunity to honour his Jamaican roots while creating something fun that challenged people's expectations.

Following an album like wHIMSY!, it would have been easy to stay in familiar territory. Instead, Destin continues to prove he's not interested in being boxed into one genre. Whether it's jazz, alternative R&B or now reggae-inspired sounds, each release feels like a genuine reflection of where he is creatively.

With a reggae-inspired album set to arrive on 7 August, NERVOUS offers an exciting glimpse into what's to come.
