Charlotte Day Wilson Returns With Brand New Track ‘Selfish'

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and producer Charlotte Day Wilson is back with a brand new electronic dance track, ‘Selfish’. The single is a masterful display of Wilson’s emotionally charged vocals and production talents.

The Canadian-born artist experiments with understated lyricism while going heavier on the musical production of the melody to showcase her acclaimed skills behind the boards, where, throughout the song, we hear a warm electric piano and subtle basslines layered over a steady beat loop. The result is an effortlessly catchy electronic track, infused with influences from various soulful genres. 

The record pivots through highs and lows - initially starting off with warm vocals and a repetitive rhythm from the snare drum. Later, the musical elements really come together throughout the continuous chorus of “I’m selfish”. 

At the end of the track, we see the instrumental take a dip as the elements are completely stripped back. We are then gently guided out with a lingering bassline and cut/mixed vocals.

Created with Saya Gray, Ace G & Braden Sauder, this track marks an exciting sonic shift in Wilson’s musical journey. Selfish sets the tone for a new chapter, giving us a glimpse into the wave of new music yet to come.

With a Grammy Award nomination for her previous album Cyan Blue and a Juno Award nomination for Alpha, we are used to the contemporary R&B genre from Charlotte Day Wilson. However, with the release of this single, we are intrigued to see how the artist continues to evolve into a different sound.
