CHANEL, Métiers d’Art

Chanel has chosen the vibrant Northern Quarter in Manchester as the captivating backdrop for its annual fashion extravaganza. The spotlight of this special event is reserved for the brand's meticulously crafted 2023/24 collection, a masterpiece orchestrated by the creative prowess of Virginie Viard.

In a stroke of creative brilliance, Chanel has introduced the Métiers d’Art concept, seamlessly blending the expertise of skilled artisans with the unique character of Manchester. According to Chanel, the city epitomises the "foundation of a music culture that has changed the face of the world," serving as a focal point for those who resonate with its rhythm. Virginie Viard, capturing the essence in the show's notes, passionately declares, "For me, Manchester is the city of music, a source that sparks creativity."

As the runway unfolds, the heritage and codes of the iconic house naturally come to the forefront. Viard, unwavering in her dedication to these time-honoured elements, delves into the significance of tweed in this collection. Rather than replicating Coco's iconic Duke of Westminster's jackets, Viard draws inspiration from the legendary founder herself. "Tweed holds a central place in this collection," she reveals, "I envisioned a departure from Coco's look and instead embraced her spirit of infusing vibrant colours into tweeds, giving them a lively, pop-inspired essence."

Behold a captivating collection that unfurls like a mesmerising visual symphony, showcasing Shetland knitwear, Bermuda shorts, and the graceful swirl of wraparound skirts. The intricate beauty of floral embroidery adds a touch of artistic allure.

Within this sartorial tapestry, contrasting ensembles take centre stage, featuring the bold pairing of jeans and leather. Every thread in this composition remains true to the authentic street style vibes resonating from the heart of the show's locale. As the fashion narrative unfolds, it weaves a harmonious fusion of diverse elements, culminating in a delightful celebration of style and individuality.
