Boa Nova Successfully Launches as First Brazilian Music and Culture Festival in London

It was a hot Saturday afternoon. Not the usually London sticky heat that makes a pocket fan feel like a life line, but a heat that radiated with a gentle warmth that embraced you, a cooling breeze constantly blowing with a convicting reassurance that we were going to enjoy and be comfortable with this setting. It felt like the first day of summer.

You felt the energy as you drew closer in, an electricity orchestrated and conducted by the dj tent as you entered the festival. The energy was high, the vibe even higher. As we grew nearer the tent the vibe was building with a familiar beat mixed with electro funk. The main stage didn’t disappoint. 10/10, A few of the artists we were excited to see, Liniker, was major! Mari Froes, Alesol, and being exposed to new talent too, Nyron Higor.

As a Londoner with an interest and deep respect of the culture, I just kept thinking to myself, How is this the first Brazilian music festival to be happening? Why only now? How only now? I also thought to myself, nothing before it’s time, and Boa Nova did not disappoint. So I had to ask to those performing, working behind the scenes, what does Boa Nova mean to you?

Being at the festival felt like a return home. The music, the energy, the warmth of not just the sun but the people, the food for those of us ready to brave the 40min queue for a coxinha. Everyone came with the same thought, to enjoy this expression of Brasilidade (to quote Ginger of Dj duo Mango & Ginger), of culture, shared love of music birthed from this culture.  Boa Nova really felt like a place that could be called home for this and we, everyone was invited to celebrate as guest in this home and appreciated the experience.
