Amie Blu returns with the deeply personal and reflective ‘Powder’

Sobering but timeless Amie Blu’s voice is soulful and exquisite as she barely holds the emotions at bay allowing us to feel everything as she retells the story of addiction.

The 19-year-old singer/songwriter captivates on ‘Powder’ as Amie artfully occupies a space of melancholia and darkening tones, detailing the nature of her close friend's addiction, their fragile mental state and the harm it causes to personal friendships.

Produced with the aid of Humble the Great, the beat is composed of looped strummed acoustic guitar chords that provide a rawness before, beautifully intricate and mournful violin strings played by violinist Isabella Baker add another layer to the track

“I wrote ‘powder’ from the perspective of watching a friend lose themselves, feeling helpless as they found comfort in drugs”, Amie explains. “Taking a step back, I realised how universal that experience can be and how it speaks for the unhealthy coping mechanisms we use to navigate our lives.”

“I really wanted the production and the mix to match the honesty of the song”, she continues. “You can hear the breaths I take, and we recorded the piano on an iPhone to make it feel dark and muddy.”

The South Londoner’s forthcoming EP is rumoured to be released later this year. It’s a follow-up to her debut project ‘5 For U’, which acted as an introduction to Amie’s world blending contemporary R&B and soul.
