Toro y Moi Reveals New Album "MAHAL", With New Singles "Magazine" and "Postman"

Known as one of the founding fathers of chillwave, Filipino-American singer/songwriter and visual artist Toro y Moi has unveiled his newest upcoming body of work, MAHAL, releasing on the 29th April. A popular figure in the alternative scene, casually grooving through genres such as psychedelic rock, electronic pop and funk amongst a never-ending myriad of others, Toro y Moi, born Chazwick Bear, has erected an impressive name for himself in the music realm. His highly praised 2019 album Outer Peace was a tasteful, sleek monolith of synthwave with peppered seeds of house and alt-R&B, and Mahal will likely continue Toro y Moi’s trend of transporting us into a new dimension of audio flair and style with every new release.

MAHAL will be the first full project released by Bear since signing to Dead Oceans, home to Mitski, Phoebe Bridgers, Japanese Breakfast and more.

The 13-track project is supported by new singles Postman and Magazine, each coming with visuals to match; Postman features Bear joyriding across the illuminated San Fransisco landscape and enjoying life’s mundanity with his friends, while Magazine, featuring Salami Rose Joe Louis, gives us mesmerizing 90s TV aesthetics complete with the vibrant colours that accentuate his music.

"I wanted to make a record that featured more musicians on it than any other record of mine," Says Toro y Moi on MAHAL, “To have them live on that record feels grounded, bringing a communal perspective to the table."
