Following the release of her latest 14-track album ‘Thanks 4 Nothing’, Tink shortly then unveiled a new music video to accompany her mesmerizing single ‘Save Your Soul’. The Chicago born superstar didn’t hold anything back to her listeners and completely wore her relationship standards on her sleeve throughout the duration of her new tune. The song video that can only be described as a delight both sonically and visually, takes you into the confident, seductive and independent world of R&B singer-songwriter Tink.
Tink is a Chicago singer-rapper who first rose to fame after joining forces with American singer Jeremih on ‘Don’t Tell Nobody’. Growing up in a household where her mother was a choir singer and her father was a musician, the starlet was always surrounded by music and took upon herself to compose her first lyrics at the age of 12. This quickly developed into a lasting career as the undisputed Queen of Chicago R&B and an intriguing newly-released project taking the music industry by storm. Recently, Tink performed alongside Queen Naija on the remarkable ‘The Butterfly Tour’.
Visuals
Right from the start, Tink’s imaginative realm becomes blatantly clear when one is exposed to a male face with a bold headline stating ‘MISSING’ on a newspaper she holds up in the air. Contrary to the title of her song ‘Save Your Soul’, the music video has almost this forbidden and devilish feel that can be seen as seduction and suggests one is up for a wild ride. The colour red, which is often used to personify love, can also be defined as bad blood, whilst Tink openly speaks up for herself and her needs through a range of strong statements. In her world, the need of a man is appreciated; however, not necessary and she makes use of exotic dancers, luxury bags and powerful rules to lay it straight to whomever wishes to pursue a relationship with her next.
Taking a nudge at Biggie’s ’Ten Crack Commandments’, Tink however, chooses to set healthy boundaries to address women and their poor relationship decisions when she sings; “B****** be f***** on everybody, **, save your soul”. Tink talks about turning tables, which fits perfectly with the introduction of the video where one is shown her sitting in the middle of a dinner table filled with means by herself.
This is followed by Tink shown above a pile of Louis Vuitton monogram keepall bags and luggage, in between two exotic performers dancing on silver poles. This particular moment can be categorized as a symbol of female empowerment. This is because the Chicago artist obviously rose above her last failed relationship, and it made her a much more confident, successful and sexually liberated woman.
The most aesthetically pleasing part is when one witnesses dozens of dollar signs falling from the sky while Tink is placed at the middle point. With the combination of sexy outfits, dark enchanting backgrounds and a voice of gold, Tink provides all the necessary key elements to create a visual interpretation of her heartfelt single ‘Save Your Soul’.
Overview
In ‘Save Your Soul’, although Tink’s statement are bold and filled with explicit details, her music video takes a sit back and can be understood as a complimentary treat to this memorable experience. Throughout the music video, Tink is placed at the middle point and she makes sure to draw parallels with her content lyrics and showcase clear symbolism of wealth, success and independence. Rather than focusing on an angle of misery and heartbreak, Tink wants to show the world her way of moving on from a toxic relationship and coming to herself.
