PUMA x INSIDE TAG Present the Latest Update on 00s Fixations: PUMA UR Mostro Communication

PUMA, an industry heavyweight we all know and love, has teamed up with archivist and collector, INSIDE TAG. The brands have come together to bring an modernized albeit nostalgia-infused rendition of the iconic Mostro shoe. The special edition release entitled, PUMA UR Mostro Communication draws inspiration from classics of the past. Think charity shop finds you would’ve jumped over every nan in sight to get your hands on, but updated - fresher and more versatile.

The strategic collaboration with INSIDE TAG’s Founder George Roy Roberts comes amidst a shared interest in the brand’s vision and Roberts’ special affinity for PUMA’s archival works generally. Roberts arrived at this revelation specifically with the Mostro shoe after he uncovered an insatiable demand for the older model in 2021. The brand leverages a refreshed take on previous silhouettes, designing the shoe for durability and style. Be it a walk from Dalston Kingsland to London Fields, or a trek in the Lake District, this update will have you covered.

The original release in 1999 immediately stirred interest. The shoe, considered a “disruptive” piece, was acclaimed for its “unique design with statement features”. In 2004, the creator of this iconic shoe rehashed its look, bridging a gap to a newer edition, the UR Mostro. The brand has experienced widespread commercial success with its Speedcat designs, leading the sportstyle division to be filtered through a perspective that situates around the Monstro over time. Formally positioned amongst other archival works, INSIDE TAG has necessitated its resurgence with new features and a re-harkening of 2000’s colourways.

This collaboration comes at a time where we are witnessing a resurgence of interest around artefacts of the 90s and 00s. “Dumb phones” are coming back into play, iPods are seemingly the latest fashion accessory, all the while - discourse around notions of a time pre-social media are seemingly nonstop. The newest edition of the Monstro UR is central to the current zeitgeist as we are witnessing a 2020s rendition of 00s flair. The form is upgraded with “exaggerated spikes on the sole, ventilated mesh panels and a premium leather upper saddled on a wide-looped mesh underlay”, breathable and maintaining noughties sensibilities, the latest model is a knockout.

Roberts has been fixated on PUMA’s products for years, so the collaboration resonates as a welcome meeting point between the two brands. The PUMA Mostro UR Communicationwill be available on PUMA.com March 29th and in flagship stores in two colourways, “Warm White / Light Straw” and “Haute Coffee / PUMA Black”. With all the buzz around coming back to community, and dialing in on “archaic forms of communication” it only makes sense that fashion artefacts of the 90s and 00s are seeing a resurgence. Mostro had its moment but as it appears, it’s ready for an even more exciting round two.
