Nino SLG Releases The Deeply Introspective 'What's Left' And Announces 'The Mirror Story' EP

In a rare showing of vulnerability for someone his age South London’s Nino SLG’s shares his internal thoughts with openness on ‘What’s Left’.

Collaborating with producer Kyle Evans, who has in the past on Dave’s sophomore album We’re All Alone in This Together, Nino combines melodic a catchy melodic hook with brutal rap verses whilst the beat provides an emotive and stormy atmosphere due to its dramatic piano chords and stringed cello notes.

The minimalistic percussion instrumentations add textures and energy to the track, contrasting the general feel of it, and intertwining elements of drill and classical music.

Nino raps with relatability as he shares the reality of what it means to grow up as an inner-city black kid. He raps "tell that fed don't stop me at the roadside tell my mummy everything will be alright." The 17-year-old doesn't just allude to the trauma, he lays it out for everyone to take note of.

Influenced by the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Tupac and George The Poet, the youngster has developed a poetic lyricism that unflinchingly details social problems and mental health issues.

The accompanying visuals of the track directed by Spike Silverton mainly focusing on Nino in his childhood bedroom, provide a duality as he sees two sides to the rapper, the one in the bedroom and the other Nino who can be found in the mirror.

Currently working on his new 5-track upcoming EP Mirror Story which is scheduled to drop on March 10th, Nino feels that: "My new EP is a story about the person I can see in the mirror. It’s my most vulnerable project to date, and I want people to see this side of me.

"Lyrically I’ve touched on materialism and everyday possessions, concepts and distractions to try and show how these steer people away from conquering the real problem which is usually themselves."

"Musically, I’ve reflected the contrasting emotions in the lyrics by switching up the production as you move through the project. Mirror Story is about exploring myself and my emotions, in the hope that there might be other people out there who are feeling the same - I hope that my EP makes them feel understood."
