On September 16th, Malone Souliers showcased SS25’ collection entitled, “The Pin-Ups”. Walking into the West Wing of Somerset House, we were greeted by nostalgic offerings of glass coke bottles and popcorn, held in blue and white scalloped paper boxes. The collection was presented as part of London Fashion Week’s official SS25’ calendar, drawing inspiration from vintage magazines, classic billboards and cinema.
The allure of 1950s fashion trends is imbued throughout the footwear. The collection is a reflection of pin-up culture, an embracing of old-school Hollywood glamour, alongside burlesque and rockabilly treatments which elicit a refined, yet playful femininity.
"In the year of our 10th anniversary, we wanted to revisit the original inspiration of the brand, the tongue-in-cheek sensuality and femininity of the pin-up illustration from the 1950s.
The collection is infused with joie de vivre and irony, playing with the cliché and iconic themes of that era, transporting them into the modern world of Malone Souliers,” explains Malone Souliers' Coco Fong and Valerio Bava, Malone Souliers’ Co-Creative Directors.
Stand out elements were drop heel forms, with over arching straps, inevitably securing the wearer in place. Encrusted with diamante details and elemental curves, the works presented a special kind of intrigue. Shape was a clear experimental element throughout the works. Hybrid materials of overlapping leather and structured lace built out the forms whilst peep toes highlighted attention to detail. Pointed toes featured v-shaped cutouts, sling back straps and corset style over-the-toe bow embellishing. A couple of handbags were dotted throughout, featuring similar shimmery detail and robust yet flirty shapes.
Silhouettes were multifaceted and dynamic, presenting bold and invigorating summer-ready energy. The footwear featured an interpretation of feminine curves, glossy sculpted hairstyles, and powdery makeup as acrylic flowers, jute soles and an expressive colour palette. Tonal range varied between saccharine pinks, lustrous reds and vivid blues alongside incandescent metallics which allot a jubilant air to the collection.
