From Harare to South East London, Kamona is a singer/songwriter with a passion for reinventing and honouring R&B music. Through her tracks filled with emotion and poetry, she pays homage to its origins whilst implementing freestyle techniques and poetic imagery to make her music flow more naturally through her. The production on her tunes also brings a fresh contemporary feel to Kamona's music. Her most recent track 'Falling' is out today and it's a smooth slow burner.
With influences ranging from Amy Winehouse to Summer Walker, Lauryn Hill to Bryson Tiller, Kamona injects a sense of nostalgia into her music and the classic influences are definitely heard in her style of singing.
Talking to New Wave recently, Kamona explained that her inspiration has currently been old school soul and how those artists made 'pain sound so good'. 'There's something about that era, Etta James, Aretha and Amy, they would let you know how they felt'.
Although she has released songs in the past all spontaneously recorded and freestyled, she wants to start fresh. 'Falling' is this start, a debut single that speaks on unrequited love and struggling to swim in the deep waters of infatuation.
Inspired by the recent wave of women in the industry 'killing it', Little Simz, Cleo Soul and Tems to name a few, we're excited to see what's next for this South East London undiscovered diamond who won't stop until everyone sees her shine. Check out 'Falling' now.
