Recently, there has been a lot of discourse on afrobeats in the UK, and its importance to the UK music scene. Discussion has led to heated debates online and in community spaces. Afrobeats has undeniably influenced and shaped the sonics of modern Britain, and beyond to the black diaspora.

A figure, who is key to blurring the lines between UK Rap and afrobeats and afroswing in Britain, JAE5, has gathered like-minded individuals who he has worked in his career to create something new, experimenting with dancehall, afrobeats and UK rap.

Released via Promised Land Records, ‘MINK SB’, featuring Skepta, Lojay & Skillibeng, is something new. The east Londoner JAE5, on the surface of his newest track, delivers a textured electronic beat, that is fast-paced and full of percussion instrumentation.

Skepta lends us two smooth verses as he provides details on his lavish lifestyle, whilst encouraging the younger generation to walk a straight path. However, he laments, “But he don’t hear me, the boy itchin’ to rob suttin’/see suttin’ that glistens/pop suttin”

Whilst Afropop artist Lojay executes a catchy and addictive chorus, and while Skillibeng provides his own dancehall-inspired verse.
