Get to know: House of EL

Kieron Mcintosh, more commonly known as House of EL, is a rising star in the world of music. Due to his contagious style, passionate voice, and intelligent song writing, the London-based singer-songwriter has quickly amassed a dedicated audience.

Kieron took time out of his day to delve into his work, from his inspirations to his new EP ‘When it Rains it Pours.' Talking about the project Kieron explains “I’ve been creating music under this moniker and sing produce a mix up of concepts and this project is really about me expressing myself, telling stories the way I want to tell them and just touching on things and highlighting stuff that I feel important.”

Initially gaining attention for his collaborations with other artists from the likes of Chase & Status, Kano, Plan B, Joey Badass, Maverick Sabre, Janelle Monae and Mary J. Blige. The producer and songwriter explained how there was a light bulb moment that prompted the transition from writing for other people to writing for himself: “I just ended up talking to someone I know in the music business, and he was like, 'well why you don’t just, record them yourself' and that led me to this initial one, the first song I put out was called Elijah.”

While House of EL's tracks are distinguished by lush instrumentation, driving beats and eloquent lyricism, his music is genuinely a unique fusion of a multitude of genres. Kieron makes it clear he doesn’t want to box his work in: “I am against genre; I feel like it's unnecessary boundary and it doesn't necessarily help cause sometimes you might want to do a jungle tune sometimes you might want to do a very traditional soulful thing you might want to do something a bit more trap you might want to do something a bit more drill. I mean there's so many different sounds that allow you to tell different stories and connect with different people and that's really what I care about.”

Releasing 'Electric' in anticipation of his new EP, the upbeat track will get stuck in your head. Featuring House of EL's soulful vocals over a throbbing beat, vivid synths, and a clean production. Kieron explained “I think lyrically I wanted it to feel more like a sketch I quite like writing, so I want the lyrics to have more feel than they do like a storyline and a narrative and so that's really how electric came about.”

Speaking on who and what influences him, Kieron says, “I love all the classic artists. I think the 70s has been a massive influence in the past couple two to three years.”

With an array of inspirations from Quincy Jones to Prince to Bootsy Collins he explains that “From being a true music guy in London and moving around creatives. Working whether that's with other people or for myself, I feel like that's how the 70s were. You had Prince who might make a record or who might produce something for someone else, Bootsy Collins or all the funk guys and then you've got like the Eagles, and you got all these bands there all proper sick guys but they're also very much artists.”

His innate musical talent and astonishing variety have long been acknowledged in the industry, laying the groundwork for a highly successful solo career. Sincere tastemakers like Jack Saunders of BBC Radio 1, Huey Morgan of 6 Music, Colours and others have praised the artist's genuineness.

Speaking on the future of House of EL he reveals he is “Releasing way more music this year with a distributor from the US called Venice they have an incredible roster of artists, Brent Faiyaz, Aminé and then Sam Wise over here who's on it and who's dope.”

As well as being a composer, producer, performer, and the driving force behind releases, House of EL takes a comprehensive approach to his music. All his music is distributed by his own label, WUNDERKIND, who will be teaming up with Venice Music Collective. There are only exciting things in the works for House of EL.
