Dexter In The Newsagent Returns With A New Single Called 'Special'

Dexter In The Newsagent explores young love in the summertime as she shares her first single of 2025, the vulnerable ‘Special’.

A down-tempo beat self-produced by Dexter, with the help of Kurisu, and Saionthebeat the track is warm and intimate, consisting of guitar chords and atmospheric pop elements, reflecting the mood of the track.

Young love is infectious, and that’s what Dexter is finding out as she is taken away by it willingly, fixated on her crush, nothing else matters. She sings, “Mine in the morning, i need you like coffee... your mine in the evening -i need you like sleeping.”

However, filtering through the blinds, likening the experience to coffee, which is both addictive and a stimulant, which gives you a buzz - there is the feeling of insecurity and also reliance,  as if Dexter needs external validation from her love interest; she takes care not to fix her self-love on it.

Released via RTW Records, this offering has been released three years after her 6-track EP Fortune Cookie, dropped in 2022.

Speaking on the track, Dexter states: “Really excited for this single release, this track encapsulated my feelings about love, youth and everything in between!”

Dexter is also planning to make an appearance at Fête de la Musique in Paris, accompanied by a one-day pop-up experience in collaboration with Always Do What You Should Do. Other artists such as Kwes e, Mosses, Natanya, and Sahn will be there performing too.
