Black Sherif Welcomes His 22nd Year with 'January 9th'

At only 22 years old Black Sherif has taken Ghana's rap scene by storm, offering a consistent sound comprising of rap/drill beats, pockets of highlife and a smooth blend of vocals. Sherif raps effortlessly in both Twi and English with emotive lyricism that speaks to his listeners by telling a story.


Starting off the new year with the release of 'January 9th', to commemorate his 22nd birthday, the track serves as an ode to his musical journey thus far highlighting his challenges and victories.


The reflective tone almost grants us access into the artists thoughts as he reassures himself saying, "everything is under control, oh I tell you I'm alright".


The Konongo-born artist stands tall with millions of streams across several platforms, a BET award (Best International Flow) as well as a number of epic features (including Burna Boy and Popcaan) under his belt.


Speaking on the track, Sherif shares "The number nine has become so significant to me ever since I got to know my birthday. I have fully grasped its meaning and share in the strongest conviction that the number 9 is my luckiest manifestation".


In the accompanying music video, for most of the song we see Sherif in a rustic tiled room which holds our attention whilst also giving us space to focus on the vocals and lyrics.



Having released his debut album (The Villain I Never Was) in 2022, Sherif has hinted to his sophomore album. This track further boosts anticipation around the project as fans eagerly await its release.
