Argentinian Artist Cucu Talks About His New Release "Summer" And His Music Project": Interview

Cucu kicks off the year with the release of his new track “Summer” featuring Matias Villalba. A three-minute soothing song combining the sounds of smooth electric guitars with electronic pads and beautiful, slow jammy drums. A song that will for sure make you relax and enjoy your day, week, month and get you ready for the vibes of summer. The talented artist spoke with New Wave Magazine regarding his release and we got the chance to ask him some questions about his musical path.

First of all, introduce yourself!

My name is Facundo Franchino, I just turned 18 and I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I’m a producer, multi-instrumentalist and synth-nerd most of the time.

What was the reason that you start producing?

I guess it was rather circumstantial and spontaneous. I always felt drawn to creating or whatever, think it’s been always intensely appealing to me. First few months were really frustrating as I couldn’t get a hold of the DAW and all the cool stuff around it. Anyways, once I got more in control of what was going on, I never looked back, haha. I was 14 years old back when I started.

Who are your biggest inspirations?

Inspirational sources are usually quite temporary to me. It really depends on what kind of music I’m listening to at the moment or what kind of stuff I’m striving to create. At the moment, I dig an Australian band under the name of Parcels, Tom Misch, the 70s disco/funk era, 50’s and 60’s exotica music, Prince and a few more artists for sure. Mountain/lake landscapes are mad inspiring too.

How much time do you spend on producing music and how much on exercising your skills?

I reckon it’s 50/50 all the time. Fifty per cent goes to trying to come up with stuff, which is indeed one of the best ways of exercising. While the other fifty goes towards making it sound coherent as a whole.

Are you self taught?

I’ve had some music lessons but they didn’t endure through time. I believe that the vast majority of my knowledge has been provided by the Internet, intuition and fellow musicians. I’d say that formal training can make up around 10 per cent of all the musical knowledge that I’ve collected through the last 4 years.

What are your goals for the next 5 years, career-wise?

I’m not quite sure, to be honest, I’m starting university pretty soon and I won’t go full time on music just yet. It seems likely to me that the ‘cucu’ project will be stranded for a while. Nonetheless, there’s some music which I’m willing to put out soon. With a completely different vibe, mostly groovy, retro and dance-orientated.

Which is your dream collaboration, dead or alive?

My dream collaboration is definitely Prince. Although there wouldn’t be much for me to do next to him, it would’ve been insane to work collaboratively in the studio with that man. I mean, he was unquestionably one of a kind.

What is your music career highlight so far?

Statistically, I’d say ‘I don’t trust nobody’, but I haven’t felt a huge career highlight yet.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

More recognition to composers and producers I think.

Check out “Summer” and be sure to follow the artist!
