The Sonic Storyteller BABii Takes us On A Virtual "JOYR1DE” In New Single

This latest release is a nearly weightless blend of electronic, pop, and hip hop elements, punctuated by lush sound design and BABii’s disarmingly sweet vocals. “JOYR1DE” stands out as one of her most personal and open tracks to date, confronting difficult themes with a delicate yet powerful touch.

The single is accompanied by a visually captivating music video, directed by Reece Owen and Luca Wowczyna. The video features one of BABii’s villains trapped in a VR game that mirrors real life, with the ominous twist that dying in the game means dying in real life. This dark narrative is juxtaposed with scenes of BABii riding a motorcycle and performing the song, using the trope of hypersexualized women in video games to further explore her own disconnection from sexuality.

BABii’s unique ability to weave complex emotional and thematic content into her music is evident in “JOYR1DE.” The track’s intricate soundscape combines various tempos and genres, creating an almost ethereal listening experience. Her vocals, both sweet and haunting, add an extra layer of depth to the song, making it a compelling listen from start to finish.

In “JOYR1DE,” BABii delves into themes of identity, disconnection, and self-exploration. The VR game concept in the music video serves as a metaphor for the often blurred lines between reality and virtual existence, highlighting the struggles of maintaining one’s identity in an increasingly digital world. The hypersexualized imagery of women in video games is used not just as a critique but as a means for BABii to examine her relationship with her own sexuality, offering a raw and honest reflection on the subject.
