Directed by Dylan Boerstra, the‘Tears’ video captures Joya dancing and taking moments to reflect at a variety of picturesque locations in and around Cape Town, South Africa. Her signature heavenly tone carries lyrics that express the relief that comes after darkness over a hazy, forward-thinking soundscape. Joya explains that “‘Tears’ is about the feeling that comes to you when you finally lean into life, let go, and let the rain fall. Trying to embrace dramatic endings, resets, failures and the darkest phases that you've been through.”
‘Tears’ is Joya's final offering before she releases her new album What’s Around The Corner—a body of work that delve into the theory of social change and themes of patterns, reflection, identity and spirituality across 16 tracks. While she has given us a taste of it by dropping Side A of the album in September, she'll be unveiling the full project in January 2023. Having released a steady flow of highly-praised singles in the build-up to the album drop, 2023 is set to be a triumphant year for Joya Mooi.
