A LIVE EXPERIENCE WITH
SAM WISE
Documented by Derrick Odafi
I FEEL SO BLESSED THAT YOU GUYS CAME OUT FOR ME IN THIS CRISIS...YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO BUT YOU DID!
Sam Wise has grown leaps and bounds since being featured as our cover star in June of 2019. He has continued to lead the pack of new artists out of South London and brought everyone along with him to his debut headline show at Islington Assembly Hall.
From supporting Jay Prince at the same venue last year, Sam Wise came back for his own show and showed his audience that he cares just a little bit more than most about what it means to be a performance artist. Sam Wise, along with multiple costume changes, has not only his energy to engage the crowd but a visual screen and inflated mascot as part of his amazing set.
With supporting performances from artists such as Mally, Fee Gonzales, and Rushy, they warmed up the crowd well for the main event. Sam came out to some of his cult classics such as 'This Week', 'LED' and 'When The Sun Comes Out' with a supported cameo from his long time collaborator Kadiata, a special event that many of his fans will cherish
EVERYBODY SAY F**K CORONA!
Sam would continue his show and raise the energy, even amidst the current global drama that is currently happening, which could have easily seen his moment be canceled or postponed. Sam Wise would repeatedly tell the crowd to say 'Fuck Corona' to emphasise that fact.
You could tell that this wasn't just Sam Wise's moment but an accomplishment for his whole team and all the artists finding their way, coming from his surroundings. He would bring out multiple acts such as Blanco, 808 Ink and of course his inhouse collective House Of Pharaohs. Throughout the show, Sam would perform records from his latest release and teased a new visual due to be released soon in the interlude of another outfit change.
Songs such as Towndown, Frustrated and Birdseye View had the sold-out crowd singing lyrics from the project as Sam showcased his stage presence and engagement with the crowd as animations and videos played on a loop behind him to add an extra element to the show.
THIS IS THE SPLIF FROM THE MUSIC VIDEO, REAL PROPS ONLY
At many stages, acts that took the stage with Sam Wise would express their pride for Sam to the crowd as it has been a long time coming for the underground scene to finally get their moment in the sunshine
To close out the show, Sam performed his biggest hits thus far multiple times. Rack Up and Lizzie has the crowd opening up moshpits and jumping for joy as Sam Wise finally got into the act himself by crowd surfing and screaming his lyrics at the top of his lungs. An eventful night and one to remember for years to come.
