Gravalot's LFW Debut : Anthropocene AW23

For this season, the rising Afro- Contemporary menswear label debuted its Autumn Winter Collection at London Fashion Week. They cemented their historical roots, by showcasing an array of locally crafted garments. With the infusion of tracksuit and blazer sets, we saw the evolution of black cultures. Traditional and Modern materials were adapted to create a new uniform for the current geological age. This collection prioritised signature mixes of military themes and loose tailoring, couture-level woven fabrics, crisp silhouettes and highly detailed embroidery. In addition, the collection sustained key elements of the brand's identity including cowrie shells, and hibiscus flowers and introduces the new, powerful leopard teeth. The pieces reflected how human behaviour influences our climate and environment.

An underlying theme was the Leopard used in multiple pieces. In Onye Anuna ‘s own words ‘the leopard is a symbol of power and stealth, a symbol revered in many African cultures’. The power was captured in the sprinkling of teeth; stealth was reinforced in subtle leopard print patterns on black fabric.

Throughout the collection, bold embroidery made noise on work wear, crewnecks and blazers. The jackets were versatile. The stars of the show were the Strasburg navy sparkled cropped blazer and Millgrove black leopard jacket – which also translated in neon green. Comfort was wrapped in the green Harling fitted trousers,

Accompanying them were turtle necks, knitted sweaters in white and navy, three-quarter shorts, oversized shirts, and Graphic tees, While the base colours were black, white and grey, in true Gravalot style – neon green and blue sparked. In some ways, this collection was an elevation of the previous Heavy Weather Collection. With high-end locally sourced fabrics, carefully crafted trousers and jackets, we saw the continued celebration of artisan craftsmanship and a beautiful dodge from capitalist exploitation,
